Major transitions in the energy industry

The transformation of the energy industry brings about complex challenges for executives: their roles and responsibilities are changing at a breathtaking pace. As a response, the MBA Energy Management program of the WU Executive Academy now offers digital coaching to students.

The global energy industry is undergoing change on a hitherto unseen scale. According to a study by Deloitte, renewable energies accounted for 8.5 percent of gross energy consumption in 2004. In 2017, their share was 17.5 percent across the European Union, which aims to increase this amount to 20 percent by 2020. The pace of this transformation is astonishing, as is the impact on all players in this business sector. Stakeholders and managers have to devise innovative solutions and strategies to promote their business models.

“The increasing liberalization of the energy markets, the effects of climate change, and the nuclear phaseout in some countries give rise to complex management challenges,” says Jonas Puck, Academic Director of the MBA Energy Management at the WU Executive Academy and head of the Institute for International Business at WU Vienna. “The roles and responsibilities of executives have been changing dramatically.”

To prepare managers in the energy sector for this challenging environment, the WU Executive Academy now offers digital coaching for participants in the MBA Energy Management program. A collaboration with the CoachHub coaching platform makes experienced business coaches available to students around the clock.

Mastering Complexity and Making the Most of the Program

The MBA program starts with a program-specific onboarding session and two coaching sessions, aimed at supporting participants in identifying what motivates them most, defining their personal career goals, and benefiting from their MBA program with maximum impact – regardless of whether students are looking for further education or an innovative change in their professional environment.

All MBA programs offered by the WU Executive Academy are demanding, solution-oriented, seek to activate resources, and support students in developing individual career paths.

“The digital coaching offered in this specific program is another important element in assisting students who face a particularly complex work environment in their personal and professional development. We go for sustainable change in management practices and concrete, measurable results,” says Astrid Kleinhanns-Rollé. The MBA program is concluded by two coaching sessions, which provide a setting for taking stock, reflecting on, and gaining a clear vision of the career steps ahead.

Professional Business Coaching Available Around the Clock

“We made the decision to use a digital platform that is available 24/7 and accessible to students from anywhere in the world,” says Astrid Kleinhanns-Rollé. The highly experienced business coaches at CoachHub (www.coachhub.io) are ready to respond to the requests of students of the MBA Energy Management program regardless of time and place. Participants can select coaches on demand based on criteria such as native language, gender, and specialization. An intelligent matching software makes sure every student is paired with the coach best suited for them. The coaches present themselves on the CoachHub website with a detailed profile and short video. Students can assess their coaches after working with them. Coaches are available around the clock via chat or live-video session.
