1st event highlight in the Viennese ball calender this year
In keeping with tradition, the 24th ball of the Vienna University of Economics and Business, which took place on the 2nd weekend of the new year, marked the beginning of the Viennese ball season for this new year. Prof. Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger, Rector of WU, welcomed more than 3,600 guests to Vienna's splendid Hofburg Palace.
The WU Ball is not only the first event highlight in the Viennese ball calendar in the new year, it has a lot of interesting facts and figures to offer:
WU Ball is organized by the Students' Union of WU
With over 65% student guests in attendence, it is the largest student ball in Europe
Over 3,600 ball guests thoughout the evening
More than 100 professors from WU and international universities attend the ball
Sold out almost every year
3,700 party favors given to guests
2,000 flower arrangements
14,235 glasses of sparkling wine are served on average
WU Ball was voted the third most popular traditional Viennese ball by Austria's leading magazine for gastronomy, hotels and tourism (ÖGZ) (https://www.gast.at/gast/www.gast.at/gast/schon-jetzt-besucherrekord-auf-wiener-baellen-173393).
Proceeds from WU Ball are traditionally donated to financially disadvantaged students as part of a WU social campaign
At 11 p.m., the WU Alumni Lounge, which the WU Executive Academy and the WU Alumni traditionally organize for their members and partners, opened its doors. Thanks to the splendid ambience of the "Geheime Ratsstube" parlor and the refreshing drinks provided by the main sponsors of the event, Artner, Kattus, Rauch and Vöslauer, the guests have had a ball, dancing the night away to DJ Company’s hot beats.
