Contemporary Issues in Global Business in the U.S.
Within the scope of the program, students from the Executive MBA Bucharest completed an International Immersion in New York, USA. During this immersive experience, students learned about current “shocks” in the overall environment of firms and how they influence their strategic positions, decisions, and competitive advantage. Besides focusing on the theory, the Immersion contained several teaching cases, guest talks and company visits to a range of established firms in the heart of New York city to illustrate how firms try to deal with such shocks in practice. This International Immersion allowed our MBA students to get a deeper understanding of principal concepts and techniques of strategic management as well as to gain expertise in applying these concepts and frameworks in order to assess the most appropriate strategy when facing certain shocks.
The International Immersion started with lecture sessions held by Phillip Nell about ESG Strategies and digitalization, followed by interesting company visits at Danone, Beautyque, Ernst & Young, Colgate Palmolive and Bloomberg which gave insights into their business world and how each of the companies tackles certain contemporary issues.
Kory Nook from Danone spoke about the latest initiatives in sustainable packaging R&D, as well as about the company’s ESG policies, how they are implemented and what influence they have on customers.
Also, at Colgate-Palmolive and Ernst & Young students learned about the latest developments in these global companies’ ESG and sustainability initiatives as they visited their headquarters.
Moreover, the start-up Beautyque gave insights in how to reshape beauty retail with AI and VR technology, while at Bloomberg students had the opportunity to discuss the use of AI in News delivery.
The lecture sessions and company visits were completed by guest talks from Zumtobel and Novo Nordisk which gave insights into sustainability matters as well as implications and the impact of digitalization in pharma. Moreover, Alex Fleischer from Capgemini talked about how Capgemini is bringing innovation and emerging technologies to their clients while also diving into the exciting topics of VR and AI.
The week full of invaluable business insights was rounded off with a relaxing welcome dinner on the first day of the International Immersion as well as with farewell cocktails in the famous Monarch Rooftop on the last day. Apart from lectures and company visits, students were also given enough time to explore various restaurants, jazz clubs, cafés, and other touristic spots in the Big Apple on their own. What a memorable week!
